Susan Meadwell

Head of Sustainability

After travelling around the country with my first ‘proper job’ I settled for a 7-year stint in Manchester at the height of the 90’s Indie scene– what a time to be alive! I did also receive a First class (Hons) degree in Environmental Science and undertook a further four years of research in sustainable agriculture and food preservation.  My interest in all things sustainable had started and I have worked across most sectors including transport, residential, commercial development of historic buildings, communities, town centre regeneration and private car parking.

Music is a big part of my life.  I spent my youth at Glastonbury and Reading festivals back when a ticket was £25! I still regularly see live music - Radiohead being my all-time favourite but Fontaines DC and Sleaford Mods have been great recent gigs.

I’m a keen supporter of the craft beer industry and regularly attend/volunteer at beer festivals locally and regionally, and in 2019  travelled to Mikkellar Beer Celebration Copenhagen.  Brewing is balancing chemistry with biological fermentation and it appeals to my inner scientist – the tasting and social scene are also big factors!

I support a couple of local animal charities and I’m on the executive board for the Huddersfield North Scouts Group where I have developed a good eye for risk management as well as improving my marshmallow toasting skills - knots are a work in progress.
